Default Marlin 336

Any suggestions for a scope, and scope base for a Marlin 336W?? I am currently looking at a Leupold VX-1 in a 2x7 x 33. Any other scopes, and what base would fit this gun??

I HAVE WEAVER SEE THRU MOUNTS WHICH IS A GOOD IDEA FOR A BRUSH GUN; I WOULD GO WITH A FIXED POWER

I put a Leupold FX4 on my .444 Marlin. Works great. I don't like see-thru mounts at all.

A leupold in 2x7 would work very well for a 336. I have a 1.5x4.5 power Bushnell on mine would have preferred a 2x7. I have a 2x7 Nikon Prostaff on my ML.
I have see through bases on my 336, but would not suggest them to others, as they do require you to have your head higher than with normal height bases.

if your going to use it for short ranges and thick brush, i have a xs scout scope mount and a bushnell 2.5X28 leupold scout scope. very bright and clear optics.i think it was just a hair over 200 bucks and 50 for the mount
