Default Scope for .17HMR

I asked this on the guns forum, but you guys have helped me a lot so I thought I would ask here. I got a Savage .17HMR today and now I need to put a scope on it. I will basically be shooting squirrells, turtles at the pond, rabbits, etc. I will also be letting my wife use it. So my question is what kind of scope should I use. I have a Redhead Epic 3.5-10x40 that I took off my old .270. Would this be a good one, or should I go with a fixed power? I was thinking maybe a 4x32. Once again thanks in advance.

I don"™t see anything wrong with the 3.5-10 scope but I find it all has to do with personal preference. I had a 6-18 on my .17HMR and found it worked very well, to bad my rifle didn"™t...

Default RE: Scope for .17HMR

i have 2 17hmr rifles and 2 pistols. my henry goldenboy is sporting a leupold 4X28 rimfire scope with fine crosshairs. love it, very bright and great clarity. my ruger 77/17 had a bushnell banner 1.5-4.5X32 on it, but i took it off because it was not enough glass for me. good scope for 70 bucks though, decent brightness and it grouped well for 50 yards. i replaced it with the cabelas pine ridge .17 tactical 3-12X40. i sighted it quickly in for 50 yards yesterday for a rabbit/ squirrel hunt. it grouped ok, but i was in a hurry. clarity and brightness is great and i love the side focus. i'm getting spoiled using side focus scopes over ao's. from now on side focus scopes are going to be a major deciding factor in any new scopes i consider.
