Default Leupold VX-III regular or illuminated??

I am going to be ordering a scope in the next week. I have it narrowed down to the Leupold VX-III 1.75 x 6 or the VX-II 2.00 x 7. I am probably going with the VX-III as of right now. I have noticed that they also offer aVX-III 1.5 x 5. I am not very familiar with scopes as I have always hunted iron sights here in MN in the past. We are always hunting in thick poplar type forest where I hunt. Does the illuminated model offer that much difference as to make the extra cost worth while?

Thanks,
Mike

IMO, illuminated scopes offer only one thing... something else to break or go wrong. A plain jane VX III should be all you'd need. If you really feel the need for some type of illumination, check out the Bushnell Elite 4200 with the firefly reticle. One blast with a flashlight will "illuminate" it without any batteries or other troublesome add-ons. Good luck.

Thanks Bugs,

That was kind of what I was thinking was a possible downfall with the illuminated model, batteries etc.

Like I posted earlier, I am just very unfamiliar with scopes so when I was browsing the Leupold website. I noticed the two different offerings.

Thanks again,
Mike

Besides the extra $200.00 can go to some new bibs.

Just wondering, has anyone purchased a scope with the Illuminated Reticle. I am curious to how it performs, despite the fact it could break, but anything could break or malfunction, especially when your deer hunting.

A friend of mine has a Zeiss Diavari with the illuminated reticle and he says he would not buy another illuminated scope. With agood quality scope you can see well past legal shooting hours anyway.

BINGO

They are cool but certainly not required for hunting in North America where most are 1/2 hour before and after with regards to legal hours. As mentioned one more thing to go wrong, another battery to freeze, etc
