Default Weaver

I purchased a used Remington 700 ADL .243 from a friend. The gun has a Weaver 4X12X40 scope on it. One problem it has is that the adjustment stops at about 6.5X and will not go any further. Another problem is that it is not very clear.

I have no idea how old this scope is. A local gun trader told me i could send the scope to the original weaver guy in El Paso and most likely have it completely rebuilt for about $50-$60.

My friend and I went hunting last night and I looked through his new Nikon Prostaff 3X9X40 and was blown away at how clear and bright everything looked comparedto mine.

My question is if Weaver can fix and completely rebuild my current scope would it be as clear/light gatheringas that Nikon was?

most probably the erector tube is near a max adjustment, I had a 3x9 weaver that did this once. try centering the erector tube and then see what it will do.

thats the part inside the scope that moves when you turn the adjustments. to check where its at on its axis, turn scope down to lowest power, and hold a small mirror up agaist the objective end and look through the scope, you should see the crosshair and a reflection of it, the distance they are apart is how far off mechanical center the erector tube is. to center any scopes erector tube just turn adjustments till the reflection is directly behind the reticle.

Again, hate to sound dumb, but what is it that I adjust? The part that moves the reticle up and down for zeroing in on the target?
