Default Which cheap scope?

I've got a gun I'm just about to ditch. It's an AR-15 that never worked right: FTF, FTE, etc. I had a 3-9x40 VXII on it, that I switched to a .30-06 that I actually hunt with. I replaced that scope with a cheapo BSA red dot that totally stinks, since the dot covers up a 12" bullseye at 100 yards!

This Summer, I sent the gun back to the mfgr after owning it for 4 years, & they worked on it free of charge, & sent it back saying it's OK now. I haven't been able to shoot it much, since the scope stinks, so I want to put a scope on it through which I can actually see the X at 100 yds.

This is a plinking gun, though I could use it for 'yotes if the follow-up shots prove to be reliable. If it can't hold a group, though, I want to get rid of it.

So, how do I go about spending $50 to $75 to get a "serviceable" scope? It's a .223, so it's not like the thing willbeabsorbing any monstrous amount of recoil. My intent is to not throw too much $$$ down the drain if it doesn't work out.

Thanks for bearing with me on this one!

FC

Default RE: Which cheap scope?

I just bought a Simmons 4-12 at WalMart for $50. I have two other Simmons 3-9's.

So far so good.

I'm also wondering if I should borrow the Nikon ProStaff from the .243 that I'm keeping. That way, I'll only be out the cost of the mounts.

Default Problem Solved!

I just switched out the scopes, & the ProStaff will work for the time being. I'll take it to the range next week & see what kind of a shooter I've got!
