Default Best foods to lose weight?

All right, it's time to shed the pounds spring is in the air and I need to look good in my T-backs... hehehehe,,, just kidding old men and T-backs go together like fat women in spandex!

Most of you know I was in a car crash in June and talk is I might be to go back to work in March ( oh thank God). So sitting around making knives and eating like an Ethiopian stepchild has really put the weight on me. As of yesterday I was 241, my normal weight is around 200.. Several years ago I got down to 175 eating nothing but wild game and fish, since I didn't get to hunt due to my injuries this year there is no wild game in my freezer, I can only eat so much fish.

What are some of your favorite foods to eat when you are trying to lose weight? I am not picky, and do most of the cooking at my house, cooking is another hobby, another reason I'm fatter than a tick on a hound dog. I know some of you have some delicious recipes for chicken (my least favorite meat).

Yes, I'm going to start walking every day, and exercise as much as possible, I'm going to lay off my imported beer and drink a glass of red wine everyday, or two..

so any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks
Fat Albert! Hey,hey, hey. <><

P.S. Don't mention grapefruit, grapefruit will gag a maggot..

Well it sure ain't IPA Beer. It's not helping me. So perhaps I will stay away from you when I make it back to Dallas.

My wife is swearing by oatmeal for breakfast. She says it does a good job of filling her up until lunch. For me, I try to just cut back on my portions and cut out the grazing between meals. Beer on the other hand is very hard for me to give up.

Snack on veggies they are good at filling you up. I like sliced bell pepper: red and yellow.

Stop the beer, alcohol has a lot of calories. Lately I have been drinking 2% milk, adding whey protein and psyllium fiber powder. The protein will keep you going the fiber will fill you up and keep things moving along.

Raw, unsalted almonds are also a great snack. The monosaturated fat is good for cholesterol and they also have a lot of protein and fiber to fill you up. Be careful with the almonds they pack a lot of calories.

As you mentioned you should be out walking every day for at least a mile.

Any candy or other junk food in the house? Throw it out you do not need the temptation.

Good luck! You can do it. Do not forget: you did not put on the pounds over night and they will not come off over night either.

Also try to cut as many carbs from your diet as possible. Your body runs best on proteins and fats. Carbs just turn to sugar, burn fast and cause your blood sugar levels to quickly go up and down.

Havent drank any whole milk in many yrs(25-30?) Gave up1 & 2 % to for awhile now also- all fat is high in calories ( my cholesterol was a bit high) but did drop 40 points. Good tip on the almonds- olive oil is a good oil to use for the same reason( but dosnt have the nutrition of almonds of course)

Doing all that i save room for ice cream, my homemade carrot cakes( i need the orange veggies ) pies etc ( not that i couldnt lose a few( more then a few) lbs

Some speicalty diets(like high protien etc- can be hard on the body its organs etc i hear- as a temp thing is ok but- what i hear anyways - might want to check into it)

I may not be able to help with the losing weight part. Being 165 most of my life never had to worry about that .
I can help with eating healthy
Avoid prepared foods at all costs, whether its lean cuisine or canned beans,
Use dry beans over canned,
Bread , read the ingredients and avoid the bread with high fructose corn syrup.
Look for the more natural breads or make your own,
If make your own cut the white flour with whole wheat, I like to use 50/50 white/wheat.
Look at sodium levels on everything.
Sodium will cause you to retain water=weight.
Average persone can have about 2500mg/day,
Health issues/restrictions try to keep it under 1500mg/day
Veggies? Look for diuretics, like asparagus over celery.
Look for healthy foods you can use as fillers, so you can still have your steak, just a smaller portion and still have a full plate.
For pasta, look for dreamfields brand, it has a type of carbs that's more easily broken down than reg pasta, and can't tell the difference in taste, for sauce with that pasta, avoid the jar stuff, make and jar your own.
If your going to be out for the day, pack a snack/meal so your not forced to eat outside food.
You don't have to eat like a bird, but does take some work to eat healthy
Good luck

If I am not mistaken celery takes more calories to digest than it gives back - eat with peanut butter.

+1 on the Dreamfields it is good stuff.

As for sauce you do not really even need to make a "sauce." You can put olive oil on the pasta and just start adding stuff that just goes well together. Something that I will put together is: olive oil, cherry tomatoes (or any sliced), olives (kalamata are really good), sliced salami, tuna fish, capers and again any other thing I have in the pantry that would compliment that taste.

Going back to the almonds I love to put them in a baggie and leave them in the truck. They last forever, do not melt and are easy to eat while driving. As Terasec said having a healthy snack in the vehicle will keep you going so you do not have to stop for something that may not be healthy. Buy the almonds in bulk to save $$$. Before I had braces I also found chewing gum while out doing errands helped.
