I have a big decision to make and it will have to be made soon. I will be leaving my current employer Four Rivers Harley-Davidson here in Paducah Kentucky and moving on somewhere else. As some of you old timers remember I moved up here in the fall of 2006 from north Alabama to run this Harley store but due to some serious disagreements with the owners I have decided to find a job somewhere else. I have turned in my notice but they would like me to remain until I have found a new employer. I just returned from a trip to Oklahoma City, there is a dealer there who flew me and my wife out for an interview. The store is new and very very nice and the Owner and his wife were very nice folks, we met for over 5 hours and they told me they would be making me an offer no later then Tuesday. I have also been contacted by a dealer in Gathersburg Maryland just 15 miles from D.C. who wants me to fly up and meet with him, he owns a multi line store including Harley and I have had a dealer in Honolulu Hi call me 3 or 4 times who is very interested and even emailed me some paperwork to fill out so they can do a background check ...and I have a few other dealers that have contacted me who are somewhat interested ...so it appears old dd will be relocating pretty soon but where is yet to be determined ...I'll keep ya'll updated as this quest goes on ...at this stage in my life its like a big adventure and kind of exciting ..I will miss Paducah but maybe there is something better just over the horizon !
There's always something better than Paducah over the horizon DD...
Of the choices listed I'd choose Honolulu, it's pricey to live there, but the rest of the experience is worth it. That multistore thing sounds good for advancement potential, but you're nearing retirement age, and it means living in a place nearly as expensive as Honolulu but without the charms of the tropics. Another advantage of living in Hawaii is that they have herds of feral cows that you can hunt pretty much at will, try hanging that carcass!

Consider your family and hobbies as well . what good is a job if you hate were you live. And your family doesnt like the area. there is more to life then a big pay check...
I admire that, no sense in staying in a job that you don't enjoy. It's nice to see that you have all those options available, take your time - it's a big decision.

It sure sounds like you have alot of oppertunity coming your way. I agree though about picking a place you and your wife/family wood want to relocate at. I am not so sure about the Honolulu idea though. I wouldn't want to be tied on an island because after a while it would get old. Just doing the same ol thing all the time. Once the adventure is over with then what. On the main land you can always drive around and check out a surrounding state. But an island way out in the ocean will always be just that. I would be concidering checking out the surrounding ares that are offering you a new place to work before I decided any. None the less what ever you decide I hope it is the right one for you and yours..
I wish you the best of luck with your decision Doc. Whatever it is I'm sure it will be the right one.
Honolulu does sound nice, although I don't know if I could last, knowing there isn't any whitetails running around with their nose to ground and their necks swollen.....breathing steam at the crack of light on a cool November morning.

Sounds like you need to move to Tuscaloosa, Alabama and open your own Harley store.....
That is what I was thinking also.
Nice to have options, cosider where you want to live and what you & your wife like to do in your free time. Keeping your wife happy with the move will keep you happy also.
