RE: BOW HUNT TURKEY
I bowhunt Turkeys also. I recently started using a pop-up blind. They are awesome for bow hunting thunder chickens. you don't have to worry about them seeing you draw. Which I always found to be the toughest part bowhunting turkeys. They don't seem to mind this new camo'd blind setup, and pay little attention to it. My advice is just get one large enough you can sit in with a small stool, and draw w/o hitting a side wall, and windows on at least 3 sides. Ones like the outhouse blinds are too small for drawing a bow. I use the Ameristep Dog house blind. Also be sure to practice shooting from inside the blind, as your sight picture, and actual opening are a little different. Far as shots the best place on a turkey is right at his chest at the top of the beard, and at the rear right up their butts. That way you hit all vitals, and they don't go far. I've taken side shots, but you have to be sure of your setup. You don't want arrow pass throughs with turkeys. Its best to keep the arrow in the bird, to prevent fly off. I use NAP Gobbler Getter broadheads. Its the only time I can say a mechanical head serves a good purpose. They have a blunt head to slow penetration. There's also small game add on heads you can attach to the top of your regular broadheads. You also don't need alot of heavy poundage on your bow for turkeys. 50-55lbs is plenty. Its very challenging, and alot of fun.
