Default Tough turkeys

Here in the northeast what do you feel makes your chances harder to kill a gobbler?
On public land I think hunting pressure makes the birds call shy. They see hunters walking everywhere calling and are getting spooked which really makes them cautious.
I'd say the second obsticle would be the amount of hens in the area.

I agree germain definitely the hunting pressure. Its hard to work a bird without anyone else joining in.

I hunted a couple seasons ago in Pa, on State land and wasn't bothered except on one hunt. Had a great time hunting on this land, must be a regional thing. The one moring I decided to drive around and there were less the ten cars on 12,000 acres. Granted this was during the week.

That's the key charlie, gotta hit it during the week. The problem is after being pressured so much on Saturdays I notice the gobblers becoming silent and tough to work. They seem to want the real deal right in front of them.

I will finally get to hunt gobblers during the week. I switched to 3rd shift so I would be able to get more hunting in. I cant wait!

I know guys who cant resist going out pre-season and calling in gobblers for fun. Seems to me I've been on some first day spring hunts where the gobblesr already seemed well educated. I'll be the first to admit that outwitting turkeys hasnt been my long suit, but I wonder if the preseason activity doesnt wise em up too much?

I definately think it educates them BT.Bilogists say turkeys have no reasoning only survival skills. When a person calls in a bird and gets busted that bird may not be huntable the remainder of that season.

I think some hunt those areas and some don't.
Why do the hunters educate the birds before the season in an area they hunt?
I guess it's no different then hunters shooting two or three doe a year in their area and now complaining that there's no deer.Just can't figure out their way of thinking.
