I"™m writing to announce the plans for Deer Tour 2005.
The UBP is again sponsoring this tour, however all hunters are encouraged to attend this educational event. We will be looking at the impacts of deer on regeneration in Allegheny Plateau forests,
This year"™s event will be lead by Susan Stout, Research silviculturist and manager, Northeast Forest Expt. Station, USDA Forest Service Research Lab, Warren, PA. Susan has a DF in forestry, from Yale Univ. (1994), an AB from Radcliffe (1972), and a MS in silviculture SUNY (1983).
Susan"™s current work focuses on sustainable management practices for PA"™s forests. She is involved with Sand County Foundation"™s study of "Quality Hunting Ecology" and the PA Deer Management Working Group.
We plan to conduct this tour in the Heart"™s Content area of the Allegheny National Forest. Among other items, we will be looking at fenced and unfenced areas to see what impact deer are having in the area.
The tour date is Saturday June 25, 2005 and will run from approximately 9 AM until 3 PM.
Many of us will camp that weekend at the nearby Chapman State Park.
Dont see anything on the calendar yet to prevent it. Sounded great when they did it last year but it was too far and I had a conflict with something else. Anyone here evr been to one? Would it be a good idea to include the boys in my scout troop who have an interest?
