Default Now I see what you turkey guys see in them!!!

I went out to feed my horse this morning after work (I work nights). I got in there and in one the the corals I saw 3 toms as I saw their beards and two of them were only 7 inches long and one was much longer like 9or 10 inches. He was doing his thing strutting all over the place and I was wondering why and saw to my left about 6 hens standing around. He was trying to impress the ladys but I think he impressed me more lol. I watched for a while then left. That was my first real life experience with watching a tom do his thing and that was awesome to just be there and witness the whole thing.

Now I see why you guys are so pasionate about these birds and hunting them. I think I might just have to go after one of these guys soon.

Another question what do you think is a good beard for a tom. Is a 9- 10 inch beard respectable or what?

yep....thats what its all about...being close to one of the smartest animals in NA and watching him go about his thing...then all the sudden the tree(you) comes to life and takes his!...i love listening to them...a tom with a 9-10 inch beard is pretty respectable...scoring wise though spurs seem to mean more after 9-10 inche of beard is hit....to me any turkey you can call in within shotgun range is a trophy...weather or not you take him doesnt matter...i havent taken a turkey in 4 years of hunting...just havent had that shot i wanted...calling probally 8 birds(males and hens) or so within gun range im definently hooked...its a blast...id recomend finding a friend that turkey hunts to take you out once or twice this spring....spring turkey is a blast!

445 Supermag, You ain't lived until you have a thunderous gobble right on top of you that stands the hairs up on the back of your neck. YOU don't want to start turkey hunting, you'll just spend more money on things you gotta have because you'll be hooked, line and sinker in love with it I'm telling you.

I am passionate about my bowhunting, but spring gobbler is very tight second, very tight.

Hey Rick good to hear from you. Yup probable same ones but I watched them for a while and was pretty cool. I just might have to go after them this year. He must be fighting a lot because his tail feathers were pretty beat up. But I think I might give it a try. take care. Oh when does your MD deer season start? Good luck this year with them
