Who's been there?

Hey, I've been thinking about trying out the public land offerings in and around Columbia and Greene Counties in New York State. Columbia for deer, and Greene for Deer and maybe even bear.

Has anybody here ever been on any of the property in those 2 counties? Can you give me any suggestions for my first pilgrimages into those areas? I've never even set foot on any of them.

And, perhaps a more important question, is it even worth the trip. I've got 2 very good parcels of private property to hunt on, but thought that hunting a different area may be exciting. I want to hunt though, not just walk through the woods with a gun, rubbing elbows with 35 other hunters.

There is a ton of public land in Greene county, and a good chance on scoring on a bruin. But you also will see plenty of hunters in the state lands in that area, terrain can get pretty rugged as well. There are plenty of deer in certain pockets, but you gotta know which towns offer the best chance. Try the towns of Durham & Jewett.

Columbia county is a good shot for deer. They have the 2nd highest total of bucks per square mile behind Yates county. I hear its pretty good to hunt, but I'm not sure on the public land availability.
