Default What's with all the NJ seasons

You have a bow, shotgun and muzzleloading season then a permit season for the same later, a late season, season for this season for that, and then all the zones some of which have thier own seasons, geeeezzzzz. Why not have just one season for each weapon and maybe an early 3 day muzzle season? Say for instance the bow season could run from mid Sept to the end of Jan with it going out when shotgun and/or muzzle come in but you could still have the option to hunt with a bow if you wanted but you would have to do so by the gun season laws ie wearing orange. Is this a ploy so the hunter has to spend more money for permits? So much to deciper tring to figure out where and when to hunt and with what weapon. I've been here going on 9 years now and hunted NJ only 1 year. It just seems to be a big pain in the rear tring to hunt here. Am I off base here or what?

You're right on track and you hit the nail on the head. This state is all about the almighty $$$$$$$$. Here's the real kicker, take for instance the states goal is herd reduction (in certain zones). A guy buys a shotgun permit (any deer permit) yet he can only shoot one buck during that season, if he kills a buck, he still needs to purchase another permit if he wants to hunt in another zone for does!!! Now tell me does that make sense.. How is that an incentive to help the state "reduce the herd".
If you were to buy all the licenses and permits for the different weapons in only one zone "AS A RESIDENT" you'd spend more than purchasing an out of state license in some other states. I just wish the revenue created was channeled into creating a more quality deer herd.

I hunted PA my entire life. This year was my first in NJ... its not that bad to decipher. You just have to sit down and read the digest. Also, if you have a general question... the F&G respond quickly when you email them... moreover, if you call your regional F&G law enforcement office... they are helpful regarding rules/seasons.

Its official... I love fishing & hunting in NJ.
