Default Hey Jersey Joe...

I got the story on that 230 lb. 16 pointer shot with a bow by a member of Clover R&G Club. It's true...BUT...that particular deer was a pen raised buck. The buck had been owned for the last 6 years by a fella named John Lutz. He lives about 3 miles from my Mom and Dad's on Federal Twist road...off 519 spur. He owns John Lutz welding and fabricating on rte. 12 a few miles east of Baptistown. His property borders Clover R&G Club property. Apparently, a caretaker left the pen door open one day and the buck escaped. Lutz even had a $5,000 reward for the safe return of the deer, but the buck happened to walk into bow range of that bow hunter who knew nothing about it. My guess is Lutz contacted all of the checking stations in the area and gave them a description of the deer and asked to be contacted if a hunter showed up with the monster in the back of his pick-up. I also heard that the deer will not be counted as any type of record because it was verified that it was a pen raised buck. Unreal!!!

Well now that just stinks!!! That would explain the 260lbs and the old age of the deer. Too bad for the hunter. I'm sure he thought he had a recordbook deer. Knowing that he had no clue the deer was pen raised I would give him a thumbs up anyhow on a good deer!

Thanks for the info Bow. I'll need to pass this info on..How did you do up there? I was hunting in Somerset county this buck season on a special hunt. My guys in the club scored on only 1 nice 8pt and 4 does. Bad weather didn't help I guess.. I'll be up on the 18th with the muzzle...Take care...

Here is a pic of his deer.

That is a wild looking rack! Seen plenty of does, 33 on Monday alone, but the only buck I seen all week was a funky looking 3 point on Monday. He walked right past my stand. He had a baseball size knot on the back upper part of his right front leg, and was limping pretty bad. Looked like an old arrow wound. I let him go but afterwards I thought to myself that I should have put him down. My hunting buddy Tom, got a decent size 8 pointer Monday morning and my Dad got a 5 pointer Saturday. Tuesday morning, my Dad seen 5 bucks together, but they were out of buckshot range. He said one was HUGE. As far as we know, he's still out there. I can't make it back up there to hunt with the muzzleloader till after New Years. Even though I didn't get a buck, it was well worth sitting in the rain most of the week, to see my Dad get one.
