Default NJ Zone 4

Anybody hunting Zone 4 ? Any signs of the rut? How is the activity? I'm heading down to hunt it next Fri and Sat and was wondering what is going on. Thanks

Well during October we saw very few deer. Come November we started seeing more, my Friend Sam got a 3 pointer, and a doe, I got a button buck this past Tuesday. Compared to years past zone 4 has been slow, its not the same as it once was. I moved my stand about 125yds away last Sunday, and I did find rubs, but not many. As far the deer rutting this is the 1st year in my 9yrs hunting zone 4 that I haven't seen bucks chasing does, and all the bucks I did see which was three... 4 pointer, and 2 different spikes not one gave any sign of rutting, no swollen necks, tarsel glands weren't dark, no response to grunt calls, or doe-in-heat scent.

Thanks for the reply. I did read your e-mail last week which virtually covered the same as your post. I thought you had left for NY and was hoping someone had been up there in the past dew days. Good luck in NY .

I'm leaving in about 45mins. for NY.....1st time I'll be on this property so my friend picked the spot out for me, he has hunted a few times. After this week then I will know the property better, but with that said there has been 4 differnt bruisers spotted on the farm. I hope the Deer Gods shine down on me this week

I hunt Zone 2 which is nearby. 2 weeks ago the rut was raging but last weeks weather put a damper on it. Didnt hunt this weekend due to the weather and a sick wife but I am looking forward to early ML.

I believe that the bucks are still active but the real rut phase seems to have passed. I would still try scent as you may get some of the old boys curious.

Good luck and look out for bears!

Bob

Broadhead-Thanks for the info. Heading down to hunt zone 4 this Friday and Saturday. Weather says it is supposed to be warm so who knows what is going to happen. Hopefully we'll at least see a few. Gonna try some doe in heat pee on a drag rag. I picked up a quart from Penn farms to give it a try.

Hunted on Monday night and saw nothing in the woods but quite a few does in the fields on the way out.

My buddy Dragtor had 2 bucks chasing a doe in his backyard tonight so maybe it's starting again??

Good luck.

Thanks again Broadhead. See you are from Old Tappan. I grew up in Rochelle Park.

One was a 5 pointer... the other an 8 pointer. I live in zone 6 up by Lake Hopatcong...south of Sparta.

Here is the 5 pointer.
