djd,
Sounds like you should make it back to Delaware for Novemeber gunning season.
Went out last night(Doe season). Large spike came out just before dark,2nd deer came out, coudln't see if buck or large doe? Point is the spike was moving with other deer and not alone.
Going out again Monday am & pm. Looking for any pre rut action on our farm and adjacent farms. Taken 3 nice Doe so far, gave 1 away. Looking for 1 more nice Doe for freezer. As I mentioned on prior occasion, the decent buck around my hunting area are in the marsh areas and moving early and late.
I was mowing some CRP ground on Fri and saw the biggest buck rub I have seen in awhile , right along the field at the edge of the woods, we went back to picking corn and ran 7 out of the corn field yesterday (Sat) right alongside my stand. Was mowing the stalks today didn;t see a thing. I havent been out yet, couple guys went on Fri eve didnt see anything.
IM protesting the Shotgun Doe days by not hunting them except for area's that are not participating. Its taken a bite out of the October hunts but I won't play an active part in this DNREC guessing game. I'll just hope I can get some quality bow hunts in Nov. with the bow before Shotgun comes in.

Don't take this as personal attack - but - you have stated your protest many times over. So here we go!
I/we respect your opinion - but your alone with the exception of other naive deer hunters. I've hunted with red neck slobs in Delaware and other states for decades! They complain about lack of good racks and then shoot anything that walks! They then blame F&W for lack of solution.
If you have better stats please state them and where, when, how you obtained them.
QDM is here in Delaware along with many other states. I strongly suggest you do some open minded research and embrase it. It has been implemented in other regions with impressive results. Just watch all the cable TV flap on Deer hunting on any Sat or Sunday. How do your think all these TV guys take all those big ole bucks??? Please don't tell us it's all do to "high" or "low" fence ranches.

I dont have any stats. The problem is, neither does DNREC. They admitted this in the meeting we had in NCCO to discuss they seasons. They are getting the info by zone as we speak and when they post the results, I will believe them. Once they have the info is the time to act, not before. This plan was derived to make the politians happy. It had nothing to do with QDM or helping the farming community. That of course, is my opinion. If you dont agree, thats fine. Think what you want.

Im a hugh fan of QDM and was in full support of exsisting plans that other states use and said so in the meeting. Im hunting the Woodland Beach and Cedar Swamp areas because they are QDM! I'd rather have AR but a spread minimum is fine. Earn a Buck would be OK but I read so many guys saying they blast fawns just to settle the requirement so its not my favorite idea. That said, its better than this 'shot in the dark' plan.
I believe it will be detrimental (sp) to the herd. DNREC, you and many others do not. Only time will tell who's right. I just hope this maddness doesnt continue past this year. Hopefully DNREC will have the herd info by zone by next season and can impliment seasons based on the herd size by zone. Kinda like Jersey does. These blanket season and limits across the state are for the birds.
All I've done is expressed my opinion in hopes people will at least think about issue before running out and blasting every doe in sight just because DNREC says its ok. The season is legal so if you want to hunt it fine. I won't and have not attacked anyone anywhere for doing so.
As I said, i'll get back in full swing in Nov. See you all out there then.

Fish and Wildlife does have some good stats. I have been to most if not all meetings in the past 3 yrs in Kent county. They have done night time fly overs in certain areas, feedback from farmers, observations in state parks and wildlife management areas, field observations with respect to overbrowsing the natural habitat, hired a biologist from UD(I believe) to study the problem. They have stated they don't have all the stats in every zone. Yes it is politics that has brought it to this point.
F&W has stepped up to the plate to come up with a plan of action this year and make changes as needed in coming years. They have clearly stated this. Delaware does have a big problem in all 3 countys and if not all most all the zones. All you gotta do is ride up and down the road at dawn or dusk in any county to see 20-30+ Deer and nay a buck in the bunch. I live on Haven Lake in Milford. On a regular basis they walk thru yards, stroll down the street - everywhere! Doesn't bother me - but very rarely do I see a buck in the bunch. Do some quick math - 20-30 deer observed and no bucks.
F&W made a blanket season for the reduction of female deer and Deer tag to match. Delaware hunters will only put a dent in the numbers this year & I'm sure F&W is aware of that. There will be changes but what your seeing this year is only the beginning.
Keep an Open Mind and have some faith in DNREC. We have some good biologists here in Delaware.
I DID NOT post this thread to re-hash the topic of the new seasons here in DE. These seasons are in effect and are LEGAL means of harvesting a doe. It is up to the hunters of DE to make "THIER OWN CHOICE" as to hunt them or not. Duckmastor, you have your right to express your opinion, but this thread was to see what activity I have been missing. It was not intended for your personal opinion to be forced down the throat of those who have responded. Everyone that reads these pages, knows where you stand on this issue and why you feel that way. Lets get back to talking about the deer and what they are up to. The only way to change the political motivation that caused these seasons, is your vote during legaslative elections.
Come on Duck, lets hear the stuff from you like last year. Remember when you hunted your butt off, and everyone ended up pulling for you? Your dad finally scored at the end of the season. Thats the stuff I like to read on this sight. If you cant get off the soap box over these seasons, post a new thread on the site, you and everyone else can then fight your butts off over it!
Hopefully, I hear some deer stories on this thread now!
Good huntin,
DJ

With all due respect DJ, you asked why DE hunters weren't posting. I havent been posting, because I havent been hunting enough to tell any interesting stories/reports. I was only responding to AJ and I agree that would have been best done on another post and I apologize.
As for getting off my soap box,,, NEVER!
More deer reports to come starting 11/1!!!

Ok - I'm going out thurs for some final tune ups to couple stands, rake out a few paths to stands, do a little weed wacking. Hopefully will see if any sign of Mr buck(s) sneaking around. I can glass approx 1/2 mile across mispillion river, onto state farm and neighbors property. Haven't seen anything big yet - but there out there! Going hunting Fri and Sat and will report back on any news in this area.
