That's great news. We know enough to wear orange, now we don't need to count square inches of orange to avoid getting a ticket. Nor do we need to update our hunting wardrobe to be in compliance. I thought this bill passed but was awaiting Gov. Pataki's signiture; did he veto the bill?

What's the big deal with having Hunter Orange as mandatory?? As someone said earlier, everyone basically wears some form of orange during the firearms season.

There is a huge problem with making it mandatory. I agree 100% that it should be worn, but creating a law that makes it so is legislating common sense. By making that a law, you can justify making a law that says all bowhunters in treestands should wear a safety strap, makes sense right .. it makes it safer. How about a law for treestand height, over 15 feet makes them much more likely to cause serious injury. You "could" justify a law for anything where safety is concerned.

In Massachusetts, they started making laws like that. They never stopped either. The gun has to be in a locked container, trigger lock on when in a vehicle makes sense... but you can't legally leave a firearm in a vehicle, so that breakfast after a hunt is breaking the law. It has got so "law" happy that whole towns have made the case that hunting itself is to dangerous to allow, and have completely banned it based on the safety argument. Even on a persons own property, with acres to spare .. you can't hunt .. because someone made a law to protect your neighbors.

I hate all the stupid laws that people just accept. Hunters Orange is common sense, and makes hunting safer. A person should wear it for their own healths sake.. or for the sake of their family and loved ones, not because some stupid politicians told them had to wear it. And PLEASE don't think the people dumb enough to not wear it during gun season care enough about laws to actually make them wear it.

The Blaze orange issue pertains to the firearms seasons, and it has been proven to decrease accidental shootings while wearing it. I don't have a problem with wearing it during the firearms season, and wouldn't go in the woods without wearing it during that time.
Face it, some people shouldn't even own a gun, yet be allowed to hunt.
It's the rest of us that have to watch out for those idiots so that we don't get shot.
