Don't know about the shedding velvet but I have seen some acorns. Also, our leaves are starting to change and drop - two weeks early at least! Wonder if this means a long and nasty winter?

I've seen 1 buck shedding velvet in my area of PA. But the other 4 I've seen still have full velvet.

My aunt hunts in Carbon county PA. She saw two bucks (off of Route 903) on Sunday... both still had velvet.

I haven't seen any hard horn yet, but I'm sure there's a few around that have shed. It's going to be a hard, long winter in my experience. The only trees that are turning around here are the soft maples and locust and it's very sporatic.....just a couple here and there. I've not seen any white oak with acorns this year around here, but the reds are loaded. They're not dropping yet, but there are some nuts on the ground....wind storms, heavy rain, etc. Acorns won't start falling until they mature and all the nuts I've seen are bright green, not matured and brown like they're supposed to be when they drop. I honestly think you guys are just way too anxious for fall!!!
