Default Cool WV Story

We went in to clean up our farm a little, and take in the sights this past week. I bought a bush hog and cleaned up about 10 acres of pasture, and tried to kill as many autumn olive as possible.

We bought our farm in the mid 60's, and we've never seen a bear there. We've found droppings and tracks, but never a live animal.

That all changed last night. About 5pm, my dad called me out on the porch (excitedly) and there was a GIGANTIC bear in about 100yds off the porch. I've killed bears and seen many, and this was HANDS DOWN the biggest bear I've ever seen. It had to be in the 500 pound range...EASILY.

Kinda cool. It just strutted across the field and into the woods. I have a mount of a nice bear I killed in Canada, and the one we saw had footprints that were over 2" bigger than the one in my living room.

Pro,

How cool!! Yep...there are some huge Blackies in Braxton county. Not exactly sure where your camp is?? However, where I have hunted on occaision near Strange Creek....I almost always saw sign and scat whenever I went. Hmmmm, sounds like you may have a new place to Bear hunt in WV. Braxton is open to both bow and gun season.

Christine...We're a little north of Strange Creek. Not too far from Exchange.

Everybody's seen them but us. Now we're not excluded from the group.LOL

I talked to my cousin...and that big bear is still hanging around. Can't wait to get back in to see if he's still there!

Maybe I'll have to shell out the $$$ for a license if he's still around come October. Just what I need...another bear to mount. LOL
