nothing, not a gobble or anything. i heard one shot about 1/4 to 1/2 mile down the ridge but nothing where i was. My dad shot one at a different spot with like a 4" beard. Can't make it out again til friday or sat so we will see. Good luck. ps i will also be hunting in rillton towards the end of the season at some key spots if i don't have a bird by then

I hunted NY but didn't get a chance to hunt PA yet. Heard very few gobbles and even less shots in the distance. They gobbled well last week though. Every year, there is a lull in the gobbling during the season, I think the lull came early. I predict a fantastic middle and end part of the season. I talked to 2 friends who went to PA. They heard very few gobblers and never took a shot. Early this spring, where I hunt, I got on video over 40 birds. In that flock were 8 longbeards, 3 bearded hens and 7 jakes that I could tell. They are out there.
Nothing heard except my own calls. I did manage to see a gobbler after unknowingly walking to within 25 yards of it on a moss covered logging road. He got away before I could get the gun up though.
Based on my own and others' experiences, the general theme seems to be that they're not in the mating swing yet.
I did not hear a thing. We kicked one hen off the roost on the walk in while looking three deer running through some scrub oak. We also had two ruffed grouse walk up within 5-6 feet of us.
No gobbles and no gun shots near the Pocono International Speedway.....but the sound of engines was heard.
Well on April 24th we had 3 youths in camp, each of my two partners and I took a youth, a parent and a camera man to the woods, we were successful, 3 longbeards for 3 youths. See post in Turkey Forum....then opening day Sat, May 1st I scored at 7:35 hunting alone on a longbeard, 10", 22lbs. 1 1/4 and 1 1/8 spurs......then into the 4th day another client took his first turkey, longbeard...so in 4 days, that's five longbeards and we have a guy out today and I'm off next week to guide all week.....so far 100%....I guess nowhere to go but down...LOL
Pictured below is my opening day gobbler which the story can be read in the Turkey Forum "Another PA Success Story, now w/ pic..
hunted the opener with dad.....worked 6 birds till quiting time at noon......then i hunted tuesday before school for an hour....heard nothing so i went back to bed...someone killed one back there and i think they spooked the birds or maybe it was the frosty morning that shut them down...but i had to goto school so i didnt stay out after i knew they should been on the ground....thursday i skipped school and went out alone.......get to my spot just before 530am and they are going nuts already....set up not 100yds from them....they went nuts till 6ish...then slowed down some for 10-15mins till they flew down....i gave them a few calls during the quiet time and they responded...i had a feeling they were coming....till i heard a hen go off in there with them....then i saw one soar from the tree and land just out of view....i got my gun up in that direction and was waiting.....5 mins later i see 2 heads pop up over the hill.....one has a dangling beard big body and red and blue head....well my arm was tired and let down a little bit...so i had to move it to get on it and there wasnt a tree to block me...the bird busted me and started putting....i didnt know if he was a shooter but figured for a second longbeard he was long as he wasnt a jake....and a flopping beard told me he wasnt a jake.....just before he took off i blasted him.....never took another movement except rolled down the hill twice becuase it was so steep.....hit him with a 1 7/8oz bufferd remington nitro 3 inch mag of #4s from my 870 express mag turkey gun with thier factory turkey full choke....hits em hard every time......stats: 9inch beard 1 inch spurs....i dont weigh mine so i dont know the weight....he wasnt skinny though.........i had a good season......now i hope to help dad and some friends get birds........good luck guys....congrats to those who got one.....
