Default Are there any hunters here hunt near Allentown, PA??

I have a friend that went Muzzleloading hunting on the last Saturday of ML season, near Allentown. He told me they saw about 100 deer. Wow, we never see that many deer on one day in the Poconos and I was wondering if anyone else from that area is seeing that many deer as well? I don't know if they were on private or public land, but I will find out.

Tom,

I hunt on several of the gamelands/game co-ops in the Lehigh County/Allentown area. I would be curious as to where your friend was hunting. If he saw that many deer then I can almost bet it was on a piece of private land. I regularly hunt both Gamelands 205 and 217 which are the only two SGLs in Lehigh County and have never seen 100 deer in a day. However, both Northampton and Bucks counties are also relatively close to Allentown and either area could potentially hold a great deal of deer though land open for public hunting is few and far between there as well.

Im up a little north in schuylkill county, never in my life have seen that many deer on public land. Private land is a different story most Ive seen on private in one day was 65. []

I did, about 20 years ago, on an SGL near Blue Mtn Christian Retreat, during bow season. It looked like a circus parade.

I hunt a little south of Allentown, right above Quakertown, but I hunt private land. My township I live in has a nice honey hole of 80 acres that isn't hunted hard at all, that I have seen as many as 30 deer in a night at. Other then that I have some smaller pieces of private land to hunt and it is over run with deer. But with all the housing developments going up, it is hard to find a place to hunt with anything besides a bow.

Are the safety zone regs the same for bow as gun? 150 yds?

I am not quite sure what the safety zones are I would have to look in the book. In most areas I hunt, the landowners are the ones who prefer the use of the bow. I would not feel comfortable shooting a gun on their property in some cases even if I was legally abiding by the safety zones.
