WHO HERE WOULD TAKE PART IN A NEW JERSEY BEAR HUNT FOR 2004?
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE CHANGED FOR 2004 BEAR HUNT ?
I WOULD DO IT AGIAN MYSELF, I WOULD LIKE FOR THE BEAR SEASON TO BE EARLIER, AND ALSO WITH BOW. MAYBE AND THIS IS JUST A MAYBE, NO CUBS OR NO SOWS WITH CUBS TO BE HARVESTED. THE CHANCES ARE GOOD THAT THERE WILL BE A HUNT IN 2004, BUT AS FAR AS A EARLIER BOW SEASON THAT MAYBE HARD TO GET, JUST SOME WISHFUL THINKING ON MY PART
I did not participate this year nor will I apply next year although I support the hunt 100%. I think that the state should open the season during Permit Bow and into shotgun. No cubs--although this may be subjective.
Looks like there will be another hutn as there were no "bad" incidents involving hunters.

I'M GETTING A FULL BODY MOUNT FOR MY BEAR. I HAVE 2 OTHER BEARS THAT I HARVESTED IN CANADA ONE IS A RUG, THE OTHER A 3/4 MOUNT. SINCE THIS WAS A NEW JERSEY BEAR, I SAID WHAT THE HELL, LET ME DO A FULL BODY MOUNT.
i think if they allowed baiting at least the hunter could have more time to consider size and if it may have cubs. black bears are hard to judge size but this way it could be more controlled. hunting over bait is far from a sure thing just allows the hunter to be more selective. maybe an earlier season for archery.
A hunt during both bow and gun season as well as muzzleloader. Make it an incodental hunt during deer season just like Coyote and Fox. Unrestricted baiting.
It's real hard to restrict shooting cubs expecially if it is a late season hunt. Many male cubs in NJ are actually bigger than the sows by November/December.
I AGREE THAT LATER IN THE SEASON A CUB CAN BE BIGGER THEN IT'S MOTHER, MAKING IT HARDER TO JUDGE. BUT I STILL HOPE THEY WOULD ALLOW ARCHERY FOR BEAR. THIS PAST SEASON, TWICE I HAD 2 DIFFERENT BEARS IN THE 200lb. RANGE UNDER MY STAND WHILE BOW HUNTING.
BHC, when I went to the bear class I asked one of the Fish & Game officers if there was ever going to be an archery season and he stated that he too was an archer and he doubted very much if there will ever be an archery season. Although he said he couldn't guarantee there wouldn't be, and we should be glad there was one for firearms. All we could do is voice our opinions and pray. Sorry for the not so good news.[:'(]
