The bill for rifle in NY's southern tier & other parts of NY
Ever NY hunter should read this.
TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the environmental conservation law,
in relation to allowing the use of a rifle during the regular open
hunting season in the Southern tier, Central and Western regions
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL : This legislation would permit use
of the rifle during the regular open hunting season in the Southern
Tier, Central and Western regions.
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS : Column 3 of the item (f) in
paragraph a of subdivision 2 of section 11-0907 of the environmental
conservation law, as amended by chapter 600 of the laws of 1993, is
amended to read as follows:
Pistol of no less than .35 caliber and barrel length of not less than
four inches, shotgun, rifle, muzzle loading firearm or long bow only.
Column 3 of item (f) in paragraph a of subdivision 2 of section
11-0907 of the environmental conservation law, as amended by chapter
108 of the laws of 1995, is amended to read as follows:
Pistol, shotgun, rifle, muzzle loading firearm or long bow only.
JUSTIFICATION : Rifles would enhance the number of people entering
the ranks of active and participating sportsman, thereby increasing
state revenue for license sales and serving to control the ever
increasing deer population. Additionally, when considering the new
magnum and sabot ammunition for shotguns, their range and accuracy has
increased in such a manner that safety is no longer of great concern.
Thus, it is the opinion of the sponsor that the ban on rifle hunting
in the Southern tier, Central and Western regions should be lifted
PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY : New Bill
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS : None.
EFFECTIVE DATE : This act shall take effect immediately, provided
that the amendments to subdivision 2 of section 11-0907 of the
environmental conservation law made by section one of this act shall
be subject to the expiration and reversion of such subdivision
pursuant to section 13 of chapter 600 of the laws of 1993, as amended,
when upon such date the provisions of section two of this act shall
take effect.
There has been a lot of talk about this but how many have read it .

** This would be a terrible thing to happen for NY IMO. Like I said before, if rifles go out to the woods I'll be one LESS hunter out there. And I know a lot more like me on this issue.
