ALERT - NO YOUTH BEAR HUNTING IN NJ

People are starting to receive phone calls from NJ F&W saying that youth hunters under 16 will not be able to bear hunt. I verified that it is indeed the Division that are making these calls.

With that said, what they are doing is illegal and is age discrimination against youth hunters. Hopefully someone will pick up the ball on this and sue the state. If a bear is killed and brought to a check station by a youth hunter NOTHING can be done about it because it is not illegal as long as the youth has a valid permit and license.

I heard they were actually not going to issue permits to anyone under 16. I have to say, I dont understand why. There has to be some logic behind it. I know a couple people at NJ Fish and Game. I'll see if I can get the skinny on this issue.

The Youth hunters already have their permits. They were already issued.

i've read on another forum that those issued permits WILL be allowed to hunt bear .

Where did you see that? They ALL have been issued permits. We even gave them to youths that attended the seminar after the ban was in place.

Either way, what they did is illegal. Illegal game laws should be ignored. Period.
