Default area 3-D report , anybody else experience openers like this

after the first 2 days of the season the only thing missing is the deer , i only heard about 15 shots both days combined , two local people i know who work at the local butcher shop said they only received a couple of deer for processing . in fact , the only two deer that i did see were allready dead and tagged. anybody know what's up ?? or have a opener like this ??

4C, in Carbon Cnty, also looks slow. There have been some deer taken, mind you, but I don't hear the shooting like other years. Every other hunter I ask, they say "no, didn't see anything". I haven't seen a deer yet, this season, but the wind may have a lot to do with it. On Monday, I hunted just west of turnpike and didn't see another hunter all day. Heard a total of six shots by 11 AM, on the first day of gun season. But the bucks that are taken are 8 pts or better, I'm hearing. Gary Alt must be very happy with this.

i would say its because of the wind. 5c was the same way on openeing day. not too much shooting. monday morning on the way to my spot i saw alot of deer out before sunrise thinking it would be a great day, but the wind started soon after and i bet they just bedded down and stayed. those are the days when drives come in handy.

We did ok in 3D, 3 buck in 2 days, nobody was shooting does yet. Our youngest member (12 years old) shot a dandy 8 point (~ 20" spread) at about 100 yards. I took a decent 6 point, good size body and a 7 point was shot on day 2, again decent but no great shakes. A six point was missed on day two (during a flash snow squal) and I saw about 20 doe and 1 coyote for the two days. I'm going again Monday and tuesday for doe. Good luck and safe hunting to everyone.

I saw a couple of 5 does and 1 spike in 3D. I got 1 doe and my friend got one, no bucks.

The wind is supposed to lesson today but I'm concerned about that storm for Friday night and Saturday. Next week, Monday and Tuesday looks good, sunny, lows in the 20's and high's in the 40's. Good hunting weather.

Hopefully we will see some bucks soon....

In WV, the deer harves is down 30%. The DNR claims that it is due to bad hunter weather, which is partially true. But I believe that last year's bad winter, coupled with low acorn crops are equally, if not more to blame (starvation and/or deer down low on the mountains, etc.). This is probably true with PA too (at least the bad winter part). I have heard so many reports of little deer sign that it can't simply be the weather!

Same goes with 3c. I was on top of the Red Rock mountain hunting and if I was a deer, I would be bedded down in the thickest of cover due to that dame wind. This is the first year I have never seen deer during rifle season. I had enough between the wind gusts and snow squals.

A friend of mine hunted in 5c and he said that there wasn't many shots at all which is very surprising.

I hunted in 3D on the opening day...Promised Land area. There was very little shooting though I was aware of 4 bucks being taken out of the one section that I was hunting...two 8s and two 5s.

I went out Tuesday morning in 4C...Schnecksville area and there was some shooting early...before 7:30 am. I saw three does strapped to vehicles on my way out. With the storm coming tomorrow and Saturday I have a feeling the harvest numbers are about to go up...
