Default NJ Black Powder opener....

With the boys in PA, we only had 4 guys show up at the club for Jersey' s 2 day special Black Powder season. 4 out of 4 connected with the bucks being a spike/5pt/6pt/7pt.

I put some scent out in my overgrown cedar field and watched a nice 7pt and a spike circle each other coming to the scent. After losing sight of the 7pt. I finally caught him quartering away at about 60 yards. Took one shot with the TC Black Diamond and he was down. Pics to follow.

The bucks are still rutting and we saw numerous fresh rubs and had bucks chasing does all day. Good luck next Monday.

Congrats to ya, I didn' t know they would still be rutting hard as it sounds from your discription. I didn' t get my black powder hunting license this year as I still have to take that course before I can. But I am thinking about doing it. Everyone says its a blast to do (pun intended) So After this season is over I will go do the course and get a BP license. I guess I will have to buy a BP gun too to hunt with. I have never done this before but others tell me that its a lot of fun.

Congrats

Brian

I GOT MYSELF A GOOD SIZE DOE AT 10yds. I WAS HUNTING WITH 2 OTHER GUYS. I HAD 2 DOES RUN 100mph PAST ME, I NEVER HEARD THEM COING CAUSE OF THE WIND, THEN A HOUR LATER WHILE LOOKING TO MY RIGHT I HEARD WALKING TO MY LEFT, I GOT MY GUN LOOKED TOWARDS MY RIGHT AND SAW A CHIPMUNK, THEN I SAW A DEER COMING, SHE WALKED TOWARDS ME, AND IN SOME THICK PINES I HAD THE ONLY SHOT BEFORE SHE WOULD WIND ME, GOT HER IN THE NECK.

MY OTHER FRIEND SAW 8 DEER NO SHOTS, BUT HE SAID THE DEER WERE ACTING AND RUNNING AS IF THEY WERE IN THE RUT!!!!!

MY OTHER FRIEND, WELL GOOD GUY, BUT SO CHEAP REFUSES TO SIGHT HIS GUN IN, CAUSE HE FEELS HE'S WASITING MONEY SHOOTING AT PAPER, MAKES NO SENSE TO ME. ANY WAY HE SAW 10 DEER. 1ST 2 DOES COME BY, AT 30yds HE MISSES, THEN 20 MINS LATER A FEW MORE COME BY, MISSES AGAIN. FEW HOURS GO BY, MISSES A 8 POINTER AT 60yds. BROADSIDE, THEN LESS THEN A HOUR LATER MISSES ANOTHER DOE. LAST YEAR DURING MUZZLELOADER SEASON, HE MISSED A DOE, AND A HUGE 8 POINTER TWICE. I ASKED HIM LAST YEAR, AND AGAIN THIS YEAR WHY DON'T YOU SIGHT IT IN? HE BLAMES THE GUN, THE SCOPE, THE BULLETS, THEN YESTERDAY IT WAS THE WIND. LETS SEE WHAT HAPPENS MONDAY FOR SHOTGUN

I knew that the deer were still rutting as my buddy shot a 9pt on Sunday in NY that was chasing does. Also, I saw a nice 6pt following a doe at 3pm right in front of my house on Sat. I live in Bergen County so hunting is not allowed. On the way home through Haworth, a spike ran across in front of my truck! Too much buck activity happening.

Anyway, the bucks were still chasing does right until we left the farm at 4pm when a nice 8pt was following a group of does right past my Dad's stand. My Dad of course couldnt make the hunt so he was bummed when I told him today.

All bets are off for next Monday's shotgun opener as the woods will be crawling with hunters. Good luck on Mon.
