Block Shoots

Click the Block Shoot link on the left.

Prizes are usually meat and/or money. Tickets are sold for money and guns too.

I have been to two block shoots. What we do is there are 10 rounds, $2 per round. The sponser of the block shoot provides the rounds. I believe they were #6 shot. We number the targets per round on the back. Then we setup targets at 60 feet from shooting rests. Then we start shooting only 12 ga and when the round is done, one person looks at the targets and the one with the bb closest to the center wins the round. Each round is usually for meat, turkeys, hams, beef, chickens, etc., or we just have a turkey shoot.

We also have 2 box shoots for a 25 lb turkey. 50 cents per box and we normally have a 50/50. The last block shoot we had I cooked hamburgers and hot dogs on a grill and shot 10 rounds. The grill kept me warm.

Also I won one of the box shoots and got that big bird which we cooked on Thanksgiving.

we call em "turkey shoots" up here in NY....because they are held before thanksgiving and the prizes are frozen 20lb turkeys(and cash) same principle. i love to see the guys that "shot a running deer at 200yds" miss a 20" target offhand at 50 or 100yds....always humbles a few...

Block shoots are a major fundraiser for out F&G club. If you look at the club calender on the webpage you can see we have them every Saturday night from Jan - April. There is a bunch of clubs that do these shoots in the area. The clubs usually work around each other so they are not shooting on the same night. Sometimes they are also called "Card Shoots". I remember my dad taking me to block shoots years ago. Then they actually used a block of wood with an X etched in from corner to corner. Now card stock is used. There are usually prized for the top 10 shooters each round. It's alot of fun and a good time visiting friends and making new ones.
