Default Where are the MA deer hunters???

What are you seeing for food, sign, and animals??

Been out in Zones 3 & 1. Still very little buck sign, and the mast crop is way down, with only small ptaches of acrorns and beechnuts. Not alot of general sign either. Saw only one deer in the flesh.

What are you bowhunters and scouters seeing out there, and what zones are ya doing it in??

Hello
I haven' t even been lookng at this NE forum lately. It seems there are very few MA participants here.

I hunt primarily zone 7 and the sign has been pretty good. As far as food goes, I' m not really sure what they' re feeding on. Very weak mast crop this year. I missed a 6 pt opening day and saw another 4 pt on Halloween. Since then, no signs of life in my area. The weather was kinda screwy last week.

I ran into 2 other guys the other night and none of us saw any in this 60 acre pocket. I was gonna head out to another spot to speed scout at lunch today.

You been seeing anything?

Jack

I live in Mass but only hunt in Maine because I have no idea where to hunt here. I grew up hunting only on family land so I don' t even know where to begin to find a spot in Mass.

I have been hunting in Zone 10. I had been seeing deer on a regular basis prior to last week. I was on vacation last week and only saw 1 deer all week. I am going to contribute that to the weather. There is quite a bit of sign around and the deer seem to be feeding on whatever acorns are available. We also have an old cranberry bog in the area and the deer have been in there. There are many scraps and rubs around. A big 6 point has been seen wandering around in locations known to hold does. 9 days ago he passed by my stand at 54 yards and would not respond to doe bleats or grunts. Good luck.

There are a few guys from Mass. on this site, but I see alot on New England Sportsman Network message board, I visit this one every now and then.

I hunt in zone 11, SE Mass., plenty of deer in the area, you' ve just got to look for it and find an area without too much pressure.

The buck sign in October in my areas was good, saw plenty of mast crop, rubs and scrapes. The first week of November was a bust based on the heat wave we had. The second week I saw some chasing activity, but also the scrapes were hit pretty hard. So far this week I haven' t seen much, but haven' t been able to get out but one morning before work, word is the bucks are going crazy right now, talking to other guys it appears the rut peaked a little later this year and it seems to be peaking this week.

Good luck out there!

I would like to hunt Zone 10 this year but have never hunted in eastern MA. I have always hunted in W. Mass. Anyone know of good open areas in Zone 10?

Another MA guy here. Haven' t been checking the sites much due to work and hunting getting in the way. Have been out only twice for deer here in MA, but doing a lot of bird hunting in our state. Have seen quite a few deer, mostly in concentrated pockets though. I hunt zone 9 and 10. I have found where the deer are in my areas, there is a lot of them, when there isn' t much sign .. give up and move.
