last year my buddy put in for his two sons and himself and one of his son' s drew a cow tag. they contacted him to let him know he drew a tag and they also gave him a list of outfitters for his area. he called a few of them and chose an outfitter and drove out to meet him and check out the area he' ll be hunting a few weeks before the season. he scored on a cow his first day and they said it was a nice experience hunting elk in pa.
no anybody can hire a guide i guess if you don' t know the land or need access to the land. it must be legal. vern ross, a big guy with the game commission was talking with my buddy and his son when he shot his elk. plus there were other game wardens present also. the cost for the guide was $300. that included a place to sleep, the guide, and access to the land.
yes, they helped him with every aspect of the hunt including getting the animal out and there were no hidden costs. hope you draw a tag. i think you have till this friday to apply on-line. don' t quote me on this you should check it out if you did' nt already apply.
I was referring to the PGC' s requirement for nonresidents to hire a guide. I guess if you didn' t have time to scout an area in your own home state. I know that if I were to draw a a tag I would be out scouting at every opportunity. Which unit applied for?

thndrchiken...alot of guys in PA that draw tags hier guides because there isnt a HUGE elk herd and their range isnt to big so they can be hard to find...and land access is bad in some areas and alot of guys dont live where the elk are so driving 4 5 6 hrs one way to scout elk can be a task...its not like deer hunting where there just about everywhere and rather easy to find...good luck to those that apply
