Default 2nd rut ?

I was hunting in an extended hunting area in Pa. (5-C) yesterday and watched a good sized buck chasing two does around. The buck finally chased them over to me and and I shot the one doe. The buck kept running around the dead doe and getting closer totally disregarding the shotgun blast. I started to walk over and then the buck wandered off. Today, right before dark, I saw the same buck with two other bucks and there may have been a forth. Is that not kind of weird if they are in full rut again? First time I ever saw that.

This years fawns (does) don't come into estrus with the rest of the other does, so any left over adult and fawns get breed later. It generally happens when you have a high doe to buck ratio, all the does can't be bred during the 1st rut. Plus any temp's over 45 degrees shuts the 1st or 2nd rut down.
