Default Sometimes it's frusterating

There are times where I feel like I just hate hunting. I know it is just the area I hunt in. There used to be an abundance of deer but now the are is heavily hunted and they have traveled over to the posted area where there is no pressure. Last night I sit in a different spot hoping to see some deer. The signs are there (scraps, tracks, rubs, etc) but I didnt see anything. I spent a total of 6 hours in the woods yesterday three in the morning and three before dark. I dont even scare out a deer when I walk out of the woods. At this point I would have been happy to do that. Get to the truck, take off my gear and head on down the road. About a 1/2 from where I hunt, I come around the turn in the road and my headlights scan across the field. There are 5 deer standing on the edge of the road. Now they are actually in bow range. Thats how close they were to the road. I pull up along side of the road. Roll down my window and yell at them, that they all suck. I continued to tell them that they suck for about a minute. None of them run, they just look at me. One just turns and walks away. I know what they were thinking too. They were thinking that there was nothing I could do to them. They were right. Deer are very intelligent animals. Maybe smarter than some of us. I have a great deal of respect for these animals. I have given thanks for every one that I have killed during my hunting years. But last night, they sucked!

If hunting causes you that much stress you should consider taking up golf or bowling.

You are giving them too much credit. They go where the food and best cover exists and they live there. Hunting pressure will push them nocturnal.

Try hunting at mid-day

Down here in Virginia we have a few public land WMA's (which stands for Wildlife?? My A$$ !!!) near some metro areas (Richmond, Newport News, Fredericksburg), and they are a complete joke. Everything is 100% nocturnal in those places, 24/7/365. Heck, you won't even flush out a rabbit, much less see a squirrel!

I can understand your frustration. I would suggest trying to find private land somewhere, or somehow try to get into a club. You have to be where the deer are or where the deer want to be.

Even though I'm down here in Richmond Virginia, I absolutely refuse to hunt the local WMA's. Been there, done that, wasted so much time, hunting almost became pointless in the WMA's (unless I wanted to be a poacher and hunt at 11:30pm by flashlight!). I drive 2+ hours out to the western part of Virginia, out to the mountains in the George Washington Nat'l Forest (I-81 area).

Also, next week, I am taking a big hunting trip to upstate New York to my sister & brother-in-law's big farm in central NY (in between Syracuse and Utica), and going to try hunting up there for a change. When I pass through PA on the way up to NY, I'll holler out my window "You suck!!" at the deer for you!

It doesnt cause me stress at all. This little "story" was just for amusement purposes only. Apparently it didnt work. I know where the deer will go at night. I was just pointing out that I havent seen anything and I have tried several spots. Then as I leave I see them in a field. I also live in town and have deer in my yard. And just for the record, I do bowl and golf and all sorts of other things.
