[i][color=blue]"The biggest threat to hunting in Pennsylvania today is not Peta or Hsus, Its the Pa Game Commission."
I really hate to say but I have to admit that statement is more true than anything else. Especially when you take into account the OP. 2G first week buck only, this year 4D and several other zones are going to be the same. Sell off 40k plus doe tags, decimate the herd then screw around with the seasons and they wonder why hunter #'s and revenues are dropping like a rock and many previous supporters are now against them.

The PGC is not the problem. Decades of improper herd management have finally caught up with us. The PGC was put in this predicament by hunters who wanted the state managed for max numbers of deer for too long.
Sure they are. Thats what happens when environmentalists & other special interest are allowed to slip in the wildlife management door. Before you know it, thats all thats left in the building.
Goals of extreme unnatural conditions that exist nowhere else in the Eastern US outside of completely unnatural conditions behind fences arent realistic rational goals. Nor are extreme unnecessary levels of biodiversity such as superfluous amounts of trillium, hobblebush and other such nonsense.
That's simply not true. The herd remained stable from 1989 to 1997. Furthermore, we harvested more antlerless deer in 88,89,90,91,93,94 and 95 than we did in 2007 and 2008!!!

Mike while in the past I would have readily agreed with you, and Corn and BB will tell you that I in no way agree with the majority of their claims, you sir are dead wrong. This is the PGC's fault. Selling off 40k + anterless tags every year since the mixed season started in most of the WMU's, decimated the herd to levels that are now critical in most of the WMU's that are not in special regs zones. Now they turn around and try to fix their problem by making a number of units "buck only" during the first week of rifle season. AR is a good practice and I agree with it 100%, HR is a total failure no matter how you look at it. When I started hunting the state it was not uncommon to see 20-40 deer per day easy and you were able to pick the doe or the buck you wanted because you knew there was a good chance you'd see something better down the road. Now in many areas your lucky to see a single deer while out in the field and if you do it's usually crossing the road behind a posted sign. That's what happens when the politician's and bureaucrat's are involved with the decision making process. Special interests like the insurance and lumber co's and the Audubon and Sierra societies are giving a seat at the table, game management is not done by science, it's done by politicking.

Good points Tchickn, and other states should take notice, the organizations involved such as some of the timber orgs, audubon etc. are state banches of NATIONAL organizations and any successes they have here will most likely carry over to attempting to apply their tactics to other states as well. IF they can win here in a state so steeped in hunting tradional and high hunter numbers, many other states wont have a prayer.
