Default Maine Moose Hunt

How many of you out there were succesful in the Maine moose lottery. I was one of the lucky ones this year. Not bad, only took me 6 years. Odds aren' t good when the give out 2500 permits and 78000 people apply. Hope many of you had luck, see you in the field.

I didn' t get one. I' m up to somewhere around 5 bonus points next year. Plus I buy all the extra bonus points available and I still have yet to have my number come up. And no one in my family seems to be able to get one, either - no brothers, no cousins and not the old man. Some year we' re all going to get one at the same time (it' ll be our luck to get them the same year and different zones).

Good luck, janc.

It took me 16 years as a resident to get drawn (2001). Hopefully it won' t be another 16.

At least they have the point system now - that will help a little bit. It also brings in a bunch of extra money with the bonus point offer.

Maine' s moose population seems pretty healthy, though. My father went up on the Golden Road last week and he saw three in the span of a couple hours in the middle of the day.

Yes, there are a lot of moose around this year. Fewer permits issued this year will increase the herd even more. Quite a few have been hit around the house this spring already. Only a matter of time before someone gets killed.

yeah, looks like the moose herd is very strong. hopefully won' t have a problem finding a bull to shoot. gonna take the first one thats available, not trophy hunting. we' re in the same zone as we' ve hunted the other two years i' ve been able to go. pretty familiar with the area around sugarloaf so that should help. i' ll keep you posted.
