ANYONE DEER HUNT THE ELMIRA, NY AREA?

I GOT INVITED TO HUNT THE ELMIRA, NY AREA THIS DEER SEASON BOTH FOR ARCHERY, AND FIREARM SEASON, ON 175 ACRES OF PRIVATE LAND!!!! DOES ANYONE HUNT OR HAS HUNTED THIS AREA, AND IF SO TELL ME HOW IT IS, AND WHAT TO EXPECT?

Never hunted up that way, but its in a good area of the state, and very productive county.

Yes, I hunted there the last 2 year on 80 or so acres. Was the toughest hunting I had ever seen. Lots of sign but unless you drive em they stay put until dark. Needless to say I have moved on. I will say this I did see some big deer during bow season but when I tried to get close they were gone! Maybe I' m not the greatest hunter in the world but did not think I was that bad. Good luck, would love to know how you make out.

We have a farm just outside of elmira in a town called van etten. We have owned it since the 50' s. I have hunted there for over 20 yrs and have killed some good bucks nothing huge but good. There have been some real big mass deer taken by locals even on our property. Up there all the property owners post the roads to keep " outsiders" out then we can hunt anywhere ...

PS. The only thing that sucks is that it is shotgun county which it should be rifle ...

I FOR ONE ENJOY SHOTGUNNING FOR DEER. I USE TO HUNT ROSCOE, NY WITH RIFLE, SMALL DEER AVERGE BUCK WAS A SPIKE OR 4 POINTER, BUT THEN SOME OF THE GUYS INVITED SOME OTHERS, AND IT SUCKED. SO LOOKING FOWARED TO DEER HUNT NY AGAIN.

I hunted the area a few years back killed a few small bucks and does I also hunted roscoe which I found to be hard hunting got nothing larger than a small 4 point but after seeing the activity the numbers and the size of the deer in orange county which is alot closer to home i think i will hunt here for a long while

MY buddy caught this 9 point buck opening day in southern orange county and he was not the biggest deer on the mountain we have been hunting him for the last three years he was caught this year chasing a doe down a main trail 10:00 am

I went to school in Ithaca and had access to a farm in Center Lisle which is in Broome County. We saw some nice deer and actually took a few average racks but the hunting was tough due to the large amount of thick cover. I would think that driving would certainly help. The winters of 93-95 really kicked the crap out of the deer and they probable had a hard time this past winter as well.

Bowhuntercop you should definitely go up there as it is a good place to hunt especially on private land. My dad hunted near Traingle last year but did not connect.

We have the same profession[>:]. I' m from Corning, which is just up the road from Elmira. I have 320 acres here in Steuben County and couldn' t ask for better hunting. Steuben, Chemung and surrounding counties always rank at the top of New York' s deer harvest.
The terrian can be a little rough (alot of hills), but I think you' ll love it.
