I was seeing lots of bucks in the clover feilds a few weeks ago. Now they seem to be in the woods more. I have also found a few good rubs.

Are they hitting the acorns hard this year? What about times on bucks... night, day mornings?

I hunt a farm in Sauquoit and another in Ilion. I have not been to the one in Ilion because it is my friends fathers farm. He keeps track of the deer and tells us what to expect and where to sit. The farm in Sauquoit is nice. I have seen a couple nice bucks and a huge doe. I have only seen them in the fields at this point and they seem to like the Alfalfa a lot. Should be a good season.

I wish I had the food plots to say that about lol. Who hunts in newport/schuyler/herkimer area? Do you think it would be too early to try some rattling this weekend?

On my property, I noticed that the bucks are doing the opposite of what you guys have said... So far, I have noticed that the big bucks are staying far down in the woods in the thick stuff, way way out of sight from anywhere. Im going to try rattling close to that area sometime this weekend I think. Last year I saw 2 bucks that had to be in the 130 + range!!! I almost had one, unfortunately I was sleeping in my stand and I woke up, and he was at 15 yards.. I grabbed my bow, and he looked right up at me and took off =[

It is kinda nice that a basic hayfield turns into a food plot this time of year. I don't hunt the field too much. I get em' coming to the field or leaving it.
I do not think it is too early to rattle. Bucks will be starting to show dominance soon so a little bit of light rattling should work well if you have the bucks in your area.
