Default Anyone want to start a Central NJ Hunting Club?

I was thinking about starting up a central NJ hunting club. We could make it a bowhunting only club or cover all aspects of hunting. Maybe start off with 20 founding members. Get hats and ID cards made up, write up some by-laws etc etc....

Being that its the off season I figured this would bve a good time to try and start one up. We could also meet up on weekend and go out trying to acquire permisson from a farmer or something. If we got 20 guys at $200 bucks a piece, I' m sure some farmer would give us permisson for the $4000 a year for doing nothing.

I' m in Sicklerville and have to agree with SJhunter. It' s very expensive to hunt in Jersey and I have only hunted here one year in the seven I have been here because of it. I continue to go back to my home state of Md every year. 20 people is asking for problems IMO. We had a group of guys that would lease property on Md' s Eastern shore every year for the better part of 20 years, only once did we go higher in numbers (13) to obtain some prime property and with the numbers comes problems. These extra people were people we did not know all that well only slightly. They would bring others that wern' t part of the lease and try to hide the fact, shot up everything they could and trying to host 20 people at the same time presented problems as everyone would want to hunt the same spots. To get good land you have to bring in more members to keep the cost down unless money is not a factor. With us it was so we kept our original 6-8 guys and leased up to 120 acers usually in the 2-3,000 dollar range which would include goose hunting but cut down on the woodland because of it. It' s a catch 22......more menbers=better land but more problems in manageing. Fewer members= less land but more control. Both will cost about the same but IMO the latter is the best of two evils. I' m always interested in oporturnity though.

We have 14 people on about 200 acres in Sussex County and we each pay about $700 which includes stocking pheasant/chukar. We had to add 2 more guys last year b/c the landowner bent us over a log when he announced that he was doubling the lease payment to $10,000! We about fell over after hunting here since 1990 but he told us that he had 2 other clubs willing to take over the lease. We now have added 2 full members and 2 juniors (under 18) as well as engage in 3 fundraisers! It really sucks but in order to hunt prime land you need tp pay in NJ unless your relative owns a farm.

Let me know how it turns out but that' s just reality in NJ and increasingly elsewhere.

I' d have to agree with the others, living in Central Jersey, I' d like nothing more than to have a spot nearby, but just can' t afford the price. Until then, I' ll be passing mdbohuntr every Friday night on 301 heading South.
Frankly, the quality of deer in NJ aren' t worth near the price of land costs.
