Default Just heard a developer wants to break up 840 acres next to me

Talk about bad news! Fortunately, he can' t do it until 2007 at the earliest due to provisions in our association agreement. Maybe by then me and my other neighbors can figure a way to keep it from happening or buy ourselves a cushion or something...

Is that up towards Martinsburg WV? I heard that lots of people were packin up and breakin their farms up to make money. Thats sad. One man became a Millionair in 1 year because he split up his farm and sold it. Maybe you can figure out a way to save it. Good Luck

This past Sunday there was an article in the Charleston Gazette about this new problem. It mentioned that they are trying to create legislation which would somehow give incentive to farmers and land heirs to keep their parcels in tact.

Sorry to hear your bad news, hopefully there is something which can be done before a pile more of seasonal homes goes up.

Bummer Doug...and it is happening everywhere. Hopefully you will get that buffer zone. At least you have time and resources to act....alot of folks do not. I wish you luck.

Doug...That just sucks. I guess that' ll push the wildlife onto you, but the pressure/tresspassing will be extremely annoying. Hopefully somehow the tide will turn.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies, fellas. The one good thing that would come of it is that I would probably get electricity out of it. But I would rather go without electricity for the solitude that is there now.

I went turkey hunting on 5/2 after not going to the club since around thanksgiving only to discovera clear cut across the road from the club. Looks like about 10 homes will be going in this summer on some land that was great for deer/turkey not to mention the scenery. NJ is just getting hammered by developers over the last decade as farmers are being forced to sell.

I' m curious once the new owners start hearing gun shots this fall and see people walking around in orange vests what their reaction will be.

I' m from Martinsburg, WV, and yes, everything is getting broken up. Our 300 acres has become bow only, due to a school being put in beside us, and a residential area being put in across from us. [:@][:' (][X(]

Josh,

You would think they could reduce it to shotgun only instead of rifle. The one good thing about your situation is that you should have some mature bucks running around. Some of my neighbors make sure that anything with a glint of antler goes down. Heaven forbid we hold off on small bucks to savor the excitement of knowing more big ones are running around!

Same thing happened to me. I lost one of my best hunting spots when it was sold off to a greedy developer. The property right next to me and they built houses there, and now there is a house right where I shot my biggest gobbler. It almost made a tear in my eye when everyday I would hear bulldozers tearing up the woods that I knew like the back of my hand.

Only thing is now there are more deer on my property than ever
