The Maine lottery for moose hunting was drawn tonight. I have just finished reading it on line and was I ever surprized! I have been applying for over 20 years and finally got picked! Whoooo Hooo!!!! I can hardly wait for a chance to hunt one of those large animals.. I am still quite shocked to say the least! I hope others that have applied on here has a chance as well! I get to hunt for a bull during the second week of October and I am hoping to make it a hunt of a lifetime! I hope to be able to share some great pics this fall of the hunt. Sorry for the ranting I am just so surprized about it!
Phil: If it was me, I'd give the timber Co. Lands within a 5 mile radius of the Boulet camps a serious look. Last couple of years last week of deer season I saw a couple of BIG bulls. Just saying.

Thanks crokit, I am not sure where Boulet camps is but will try and check it out. I am in the heart of timber company lands here. So I will be exploring alot of country trying to decide the best place to tag one.. Thanks for your input..
Phil
It's above Moosehead lake, Just below Russel Mt., along Russel Brook. Just off the Golden rd. The Bulls were near Elk Pond, about 2 miles from the camps. Check out they're web site. VERY reasonable rates. In fact, you supply the food, they provide cabins/running water, showers, pots/pans for 30.00$ a day. Just type in Boulet camps. If you can beat they're deal, I want to know!

Phil I was drawn for azone 5 Sep bull permit. Been putting in for 10 years and this is the first one. I cant wait! I am going to load up some 200Gr Accubonds for my 3006, I think that will do the trick. If I can get close enough I am going to try and get amoose with my bow.
Crokit, thanks for the tip, however I am hunting on the eatsern side of the state. My permit is for zone 19 which is where I have hunted and fished for years. So hopefully I will be getting a shot at one. Six days is not alot of time to hunt them but as long as they are moving I should be able to tag one.
cgguy, I think you should do fine in zone 5 and it is a great time of year to call them out to you. I like calling them out then with a bull grunt. The Oct. hunt I have it is more difficult but still should be alright to get one out then. During the October hunt I will be using nothing more than a cow grunt. I have watched a big bull last year during the Oct. hunt. I used my bull grunt and he ignored it completely but when I used my cow grunt it stoped him up. He swung right around broadside in the road but no one was around to get a shot at him. I even held him there for around 20 minutes hoping some one would come around with a permit. So I am hoping this cow grunt will work for me then..
Well I have done some scouting even though it is still early in the year as of yet. Yesterday I saw nothing but tracks and a few old signs from last fall.. Today I went out and saw two cows as well as two bulls and one that took off. All I got to see was the back of it, no idea what that one was. Also got to see two does standing in some rasberry bushes.. Here is a pic of one of the bulls I saw. The other one took off without leaving a pic..
