Thompson Center lays off 66, furloughs 37 in NH

ROCHESTER, N.H. (AP) Rifle-maker Thompson Center Arms, one of the largest employers in Rochester, N.H., laid off 66 workers this week and furloughed another 37.

Company owner Smith & Wesson said the layoffs were prompted by a drop in sales of the company's black powder hunting rifles.

The cuts accounted for almost 29 percent of Thompson Center Arms' work force, bringing the number of workers at the factory to roughly 250. That's almost half of what it was just under a year ago.

The company cut 80 jobs in September and 36 last March.

This is just another sign of times. Things are really rough right now. I just hope they are strong enough to hold on because I really like their product. I can see myself buying one of their firearms in future if I ever have any money again that I am able to part with.

when prices go up,we all are cutting back.

that is problem right now,NOTHING is coming down in price.

food is going thru roof.

most of workers, which i heard were their most experienced workers to leave at t/c.[:@]

i saw it at my work too, young bosses came in and got rid of older workers over 50.[:@]

prices, you watch will go UP at T/C and not down.
