Anyone hunt in NY catskills state park?

I just got access to some land near the catskill state park, and was wondering does anyone hunt in it, and how do you like it?

I used to hunt up in the Belayre ski area. Loved it up there. Hunted the Adirondacks for years after that. I would love to get back there. Kind of a long drive now to get there.

Phonecia area is supposed to have good #s and big bucks.

Adirondak st park is bigger than Glacier,yosemite,and yellowstone combined! Deer densities are very low, but I hear the grouse and rabbit hunting is excellent. I may go up there for bear next year during the early season in sept.

If you indicate the general where abouts of where in the catskill park I probably an give you a sense of how the area is.
As far as Phoenicia is concerned you will be very likely dissapointed in the deer numbers,they are very low.There aren't many hard hunting locals who are killing big bucks in that and the surrounding area's so the liklihood of some one who is not familiar with the area coming in and doing well there is quite remote.In most of the management area that Phoenicia is within no DMP's have been issued for a number of years.The deer numbers are way down.
I live 10 miles from Phoenicia.

hate to dissapoint you but the hunting in most of the carskill state park area is pretty bad and has been that way for a long time. it's mostly very mature hardwoods not much cover, poor browes, steep, bad winters,to many yotes, no agriculture, ...the deer take is very low, little to no doe permits, hardly any hunters to move deer. i have hunted from the southern catskills, rt 28 olive, phonicia, shandaken, right west to margeretteville, all the way to the northern catskill regions of windham, hunter ashland, jewett etc for 2 decades and simple got worn out from the lack of deer and seeing very few good bucks in all that time.

i now hunt lower ulster and orange counties, much better hunting. i'm sorry but this is just the way it is up there...
