Default MD breaks Ban on Sunday Hunting

not all Sundays for all game though.

we got a Bill allowing hunting on 2 Sundays passed in the Legislature. the Bill has gone to the Governor for his signature.

one is the opening weekend Sunday of deer firearms season and one the first week of November during deer archery season.

I also understand it to be on private land only.

that is correct, private land only and some counties are excluded; Montgomery, Prince Georges, Howard, Baltimore, Harford, Anne Arundel, Carroll, Frederick, Worcester, Somerset and Wicomico. i think that is the complete list

I am glad to see this. Only 2 Sundays but maybe each year we can add a couple more.

I dont understand the counties left out. The first 6 you listed are the ones with a deer population problem, and they dont even have a limit. Montgomery co. has been getting 2000 deer killed on the roads every year. Seems these are the counties that they would want more deer taken by hunters. And one of my best spots is in PG county. At least its a start and maybe the other counties can open for Sunday hunting in the future.

the Governor is scheduled to sign the Bill TOMORROW.

this is just one fight we have been waging. the points about the excluded counties is well taken and will be addressed in the near future.

to keep up with what is going on specific to MD hunting, fishing and trapping visit the MSA website & forum.

In WV it is viewed that Sunday hunting will lead to more out of state hunters going there to hunt. This is a logical conclusion, but since it is only on private land, they' d only be able to hunt their own property or that of someone they know anyway. I don' t think the locals appreciate the amount of money out of staters bring to WV. I heard of one WV store owner complaining about all the out of staters after one such customer left his store. When he was finished, a friend of mine reminded him that they keep him in business. Talk about ungrateful! I wish they would bring an antler restriction and 1 buck per year per person law and be more liberal on hunting Sundays and on shooting does WHERE needed. Oh well...
