Default Maryland Bucks shedding anterlers already?

Just wanted to see if anyone else was seeing this. I finally took a deer friday. 150lb 3pt. Yep 3pt. only had half it's rack. right side was gone. noticed a little weakness in the leftside whilei was draggin it also. Was hunting a farm in damascus, The owner was also telling mehis friends 10 year lod son took a buck from there a week earlier and it's antlers were gone.
Seems a little to early for this to be happening.

It is early for that to be happening.

Is that farm near any of the Patuxent River State Park? Just curious.

I work at a taxidermy shop and yes some bucks are dropping their antlers. So, far we have had 2 bucks who had one antler, one came off while the guy was dragging it. One shed antler was found in Ohio on the club land I hunt. The landowners father found it when they were filling the feeders. It is early but I have seen it happening.

Any idea why this is happening?

Lack of testosterone. I've seen this quite a bit lately. Especially with bucks that are all rutted out. Once they're rutted out, their testosterone levels drop and so do their antlers.

I guess you are on one of those farms where all the deer run to after opening day.

Lucky you.

BarnesX is dead on. Once the bucks have done their breeding and have decreased their testosterone levels they no longer have need for the antlers and they drop.
