I was just curious to see how many of my fellow PA crowd are ready for the upcoming trout season and spring turkey as well. When I walk into a sporting goods store I cannot decide which section to go into..hunting or fishing.
I am headed up to Promised Land State Park with my wife and her side of the family for the first day of trout and am somewhat undecided on where to go for turkey this season. I want to head up to one of the lakes in the Poconos with limited access so I can use my canoe to get away from the rest of the turkey hunting crowd but I do not know where to start looking.
Anyway, just thought I would like to hear others thoughts and experiences on both upcoming seasons.
I' m ready!I' ll be fishing at Penn' s Creek in Union Co.-my dad has a cabin up there and for turkey,I' ll be hunting in Somerset Co. at my cabin.Hunt during the 1st part of the day then fish in the afternoon.
I' m ready for all things Spring; mayapples, dogwoods, morels, asparagus, trout, channel cats and most of all TURKEYS! Bring it on!

I am PUMPED UP, just not ready for EITHER SEASON YET [:' (][:' (]
Trout Season, I will be heading to Little Mahonning Creek. I will be fishing from the bridge on 119 down stream to the next little bridge. I need to get a couple more Roostertails and Yo-Zuri Pins Minnows (the ULTIMATE trout lure). Plus, I still have to pick up a new pair of wadders!!!!! I guess I will have to hit our local fly fishing only store on Tuesday to get a pair.
Turkey Season, I will be hunting a few different areas, and I am not sure which one I will go to first. Thursday afternoon I headed out to one of the areas that usually has a few turkeys and I was started to get disappointed. I wasn' t getting any replies to my crow call. Well, I was going to turn around and walk home when I decided to give one more crow call and GOBBLE GOBBLE GOBBLE!! Well, I shut up and decided to do a little more investigating. I found this gobblers tracks and they were honestly the biggest turkey tracks that I have ever seen. The tracks width stretched from my thumb to the end of my pointer finger with my hand stretched out, and I have big hands. They were probablly around 6" wide. But, like I said, I am not ready to turkey season either. I still have to get my bow all set-up and for some reason, my archery shop hasn' t been open for awhile now. Probablly three weeks. I keep checking in and calling and there is nobody there. There are no signs on the door or anything. If they don' t get in there soon, I may not be taking my bow out this year, I might have to rely on the old Remington 870 Express Magnum.

If you wanna catch some trout, don' t fish downstream. Fish upstream, your catch will likely double, if not triple. You won' t spook hardly any fish, and the ones that you don' t spook are more apt to hit. Trout face upstream, so by walking downstream, your walking right where their looking. Plus they' d much rather hit a wounded baitfish swimming downstream than a healthy one swimming up, fighting the current. Try it, you' ll thank me later [:-].

Good advice PBB-alot of people fish lures casting downstream and crank up.While this may produce hits,it' s very un-natural for baitfish to swim against current.I cast up and crank down as fast as the current(or a little faster) to get the blade spinning and have great success with this method.Good luck to you all on Saturday and stay dry!
I don' t cast down stream though. I normally stick to the right side of the stream and cast straight accross. There are some fallen down trees on the far side and the trout really seem to hit a pin' s minnow when it is comming accross (while the current takes it slightly down stream). I have done this many times before with great success. Plus, going down to the bottom and fishing up is a pain in the you know what. The bottom bridge is PACKED while upstream isn' t as bad (as far as parking goes).

Is it ok if a fellow NY hunter is ready for some gobbles, and worm sinking [:-]. Its trout season as of 4/1, but turkey doesn' t fire up until 5/1. Rarely can you get out on a trout stream until May anyways in Northern NY. Right now I' d be happy for some sun, and temps in 40' s. Its like January all over again here this wk. Snowing, freezing rain. I plowed my driveway today of 5" wet, freezing snow. its snowing still right now, and weather report just said another storm coming up from the south [X(]. This crap is getting old fast!! So Yes, I' m SO VERY ready for both.

I doubt that I will get much, if any trout fishing in. Other than helping the kids fish the well stocked pond at our club. It sure is a blast to watch them catching fish!
Turkey... thats a different story. My bow is ready to go. He won`t even get out of the truck when we get home! Got a few nice birds lined up. Now if our season would just get here.
