the rut is on in NY

I hunt in Ulster county.. the rut is definitely ON.. I saw a buck chasing a doe this morning... figured i'd post it here

I honestly couldn't say.. I was on a thruway entrance ramp and saw the buck chasing the doe in circles.. I thought it was going to chase it into the road. was driving too fast to count horns

I don't hink it is the rut quite yet....little guys may be feelign it a bit...but from my observations...no way.

the big guys are interested but not chasing in wNY..the little guys are full blown doe hounds though

Of course the rut is on... It's a calendar thing, triggered by the decrease of light in the days..Happens EVERY year this time..That's how they get LITTLE deer, along about May..

Warm weather can slow the process, and cold snaps can accelerate the process, but it always happens about the same time each year...

It's not like someone throws a switch...It's a gradual thing that happens from about the middle of October to the middle of December in NY....

There been a few bucks taken in my area N N.Y.
Only 1 buck witch was a 210 lbs, dressed 8 pointer that was taken Monday evening had a big swellen neck .
Althogh some were small racks and a few decent racks were taken , none had dark tarsal glands yet .
I,d say any day now they will be looking .

i hunt in petersburg and i cant even find any sign.still plenty of season to go and im not going out again.its pathetic.pretty sad when you cant find a deer track
