Default PA rut phase

Are we in the pre rut phase yet? When do the deer go into the pre rut around here? Is it to early for deer to respond to grunts?

A couple weeks to go before they start heating up.
They will still be mainly in summer feeding patterns now.
I would stay silent at this time.

We are just starting Pre-Rut in my area. Ive noticed it in this last week. As for a grunt, i wouldnt call with it but if you have a deer walking away from you or past you at a distance a quick grunt one time will get their attention and get them coming your way. Deer are very curious even though most of the time YOU see them going away from you they always turn and come back or circle around to see what the noise or odd smell is. I use sents and a grunt call all year. I do use them alot more during the rut but early season they work to get deer to come to a deer smell or sound.

Pre rut won't start until around Halloween week in PA or any other state.

I don't think they will respond to a grunt call fora couple weeks yet. Shot a 2 1/2 yr old buck this past saturday and he already was getting a little musky and they are already working the scrapes.

The seeking/pre-rut goes on big time the whole last week of Oct in my area of 5-D. Then chasing/tending/breeding into the first and secondweek of Nov.It's like clock work.

Done hunting in PA already. Shot a nice deer. See PA archery season.

No doe tags, since I feel that where I hunt they are already killed off enough.

Realllllllly looking forward to my Rut hunt in S. Illinois Nov 2-6. I think we picked that week perfect. The following week is a full moon and the season is over.

My personal diary tells me that Nov 4 is the best day to hunt PA. Amazing chasing going on.
