Default NY Black Bear

Are you seeing an increase in the black bear population in NY? We saw this est. 400+ black bear 97 yards from the house a week ago. Another hunter took a 225 pound bear last archery season. Just curious what you all are seeing.

Bowhuntercop - I am not on the NJ / NY Boarder, but follow your issues in NJ. Yes, your Gov is a fool for thinking the increasing bear population isnt an issue - or isnt going to become one soon! This was taken in NY between Binghampton and Oneonta.

I live a stones throw from the Pa border and live in a fairly remote area. I have 3 bears that spend a fair amount of time in my back yard looking for something to eat. I don't feed them but for some reason I see them often day and night. I believe NYSDEC is going to open bear season this gun season because of many many sightings of bears. There is one that comes down from time to time, I call him"Bruiser" and he weighs I'm guessing 400lbs. +. I enjoy seeing them and so far I have had zero problems with them being here. I have taken black bear in the past, but I hope they don't open bear season in this area yet. Many people see them, but we are far from being over run with them.
