Default NY antler restrictions starting to pay off

*Just my opinion*...... don't bash me to death.. I have been in NY for 33 years and I have not seen bucks like I have this year. And in more than one location. I know these are not massive trophy bucks like you guys get in Stuben County and places like that but these are quality for around us in the Catskills and Hudson Valley area...

Those are good deer in anybodys book. I hunt all over NY including the Hudson Valley, Adirondacks, Steuben county and even on Long Island. Biggest racks by far - go to the ones on Long Island. Nicest racks (wide, high and lots of mass) go to Steuben and Alleganey (sp?). Luckily I dont have to deal with antler restrictions anywhere I hunt. Having been blessed with more success than failure over my hunting career, I can attest that there is great value in letting smaller young bucks walk. But I will NEVER be critical of anyone harvesting any deer they feel is worthy.

thats great. i also have my own personal limits for the deer i shoot having seen the benefits of letting the little guys go, but i don't have a problem with someone shooting little bucks as long as they aren't shooting more than they are supposed to be.

I agree on letting the younger bucks grow up .
Ive been doing that on my 80 acre parcel since I bought it abought 6 years ago .
I no of a few other guys around that do the same .
I,m sure theres some that dont and thats ok , just there appinion on how to hunt .
Dont blame them if they dont have the time or ??
Just as long as they dont overkill there limit .
I,m lucky enough to get a doe tag or 2 and to be able to put venison in the freezer most every year .
And if not theres usualy someone in the group that go to ST that fills his tags and gladly shares a few packs ... Good luck this hunting season , shoot safe and wear orange espesialy during opening weekend in ST . ...
