Default Deer Hunting in West Virginia

Just wondering if anyone could give me some information about the deer hunting in Northwest West Virginia. I have the oppurtunity to lease property in Pleasant county, which is just accross the Ohio river from the famed southeastern ohio. Any information would be greatly appriciated. Thanks.

Nothing in WV is like Southeastern Ohio. Sure deer swim across the river, but I have hunted in Pleasants Co (not far from the power plant on the river) in the past and there are plenty of deer, but nothing like the class of deer in Ohio. I am born/raised in WV (Wood Co.) and I hunt SouthEastern Ohio every year. You want the big bucks, go to Ohio.

Lost...Prozac is right. I live in Ohio, and own a farm in WV. It's like the state line is a line for deer size, too.

Just up the road from the border in Guernsey county, there are deer killed every year that would rival WV state records..and it's not too awful many miles from the border.

Not sure why.

I use to live in Wetzel County and I have to agree with the two above. I will say though that theantlers aregetting bigger because of hunters harvesting does instead of bucks. A while back they started allowing hunters to harvest does during Buck Season.

It takes age, genetics and nutrition to grow big bucks, plain and simple. You just dont get big bucks by harvesting does alone.

It usually looks like a pumpkin patch during rifle season.

Those things are important. However, you can have a buck that has the best genes and eats the bestfood but come opening day of buck season and a hunter just wants to fill his freezer it's not going to matter what he was made of.

I agree with what you said but harvesting a doe instead of a small buck makes a difference too.
