Results from only one butcherobviously don't mean a lot when it comes to the whole statebut my guy had his worst opening day ever but his numbers caught up gradually as the season progressed and the last day had him absolutely buried and he finished up with his bestgun seasonever.

I think the first day was a bust pretty much everywhere. the question is whether the rest of the season picked up the slack. The last day was perfect weather and good snow around here and they hammered em.

The buck kill was off about 12% in archery season, and seemed down in rifle season. But anyone that wanted a doe should of had no problem if they had land to hunt on.

Last years #'s came out on March 16, my guess it will be the same this year.

Three months seems reasonable.

The last late season ends Jan 26 this year.Mid March would be about 6-7 weeks later, not three months, and thats actually a pretty decent turnaround if you take into consideration the fact that we still use those silly postcards and have to calculate a reporting rate because of the irresponsible hunters who wont take 30 seconds to fill em out and mail em.

The articles I've been reading are leaning toward a drop from last year. Most are from butchers and taxidermists across the state. Our four butcher shops here reported anywhere from a 10-40% drop off. We'll see.
On a sidenote the hunting license sales only dropped 3%.If I understand the article right youth license sales dropped 10%.

The rainy first day kept many hunters from staying long. I know myself, I had abad cold and hunted from my front porch the first morning. Saw four deer, but chose not to shoot, mainly because the wife was still in bed. Went to my tree stand at noon, and saw 16 deer, six bucks ( none of legal size). All in all, I saw 40 deer the first 2 1/2 days, but did not shoot until the 1st Sat.
My butcher said he was down a little the first two days, but ended up slightly above last year's total at the season's end. I guess this year was just a little different from most, but disregarding popular opinion, a lot of guys were hunting long after the first day. Me included.
