Default public land in NY

i am looking for some public land about 1-2 hours away from New York City with a fairly good amount of bucks/deer.......i curently gohuting in orange county but since many houses are being build in the area that i huntthe deer population is decreasing and im not seeing too many grat signs for deer in that particular area so i was thinking if there is a website that shows where there is public hunting grounds in New York

King,
Aren't we all looking for land with fairly good numbers of bucks/deer! Just joking. I've hunted many of the public areas in Putnam and Dutchess county for deer, as well as pheasant and turkey, with good success. I primarily bowhunt for deer, so I do getto hunt before/after the gun season, which helps. There are plenty of places around that don't get hit too hard after the first week or so. Here are a couple of links to check out for more info:

http://www.nyc.gov/html/dep/html/watershed_protection/html/wsrechunt.html

Good luck.

Kingnn93:
Check out West Point Military - if you have a doe tag for area 3P you can hunt on the military property. You must take a doe first and then they will issue you a buck tag.
Check out "http://www.westpointmwr.com/deer_hunting_wp.htm"

Minniwaska State Part near New Paltz allows deer hunting only. It is located in the antler restriction section.
Sterling Forest State park allows hunting but you need to apply for a free access pass before the season starts.

Check out this Orange County shooting site - http://www.ocshooters.com/Hunt/indexhunt.htm

No better place to go for knowledge (and opinions). Stick with this forum and you will do just fine.

I have a hunch that West Point gets booked up long before the gun season ever starts. I don't think there is any public land within a couple of hours of the city that will have a good number of bucks running around on it unless it is a limited access area like West Point and a few others.
